Decision-making is the most important aspect of your business organization also for non-profit organizations. The arriving process at a decision must be precise so that it yields the best results. It’s also greatly important to remember that even though your executive team and you will make the major decisions. To ensure that the making of decisions is uniform throughout your organization, you should implement a process that everyone follows by everyone.

Understand the decision you have to make

This may seem to be obvious, but in making a decision the first step is the realization that a decision is necessary. In other words, you have to define and identify the type of decision that needs to be made, and how it will change your process of work, or improve a service or product for your customers.

Collect all information

Proper decision-making requires evaluation of all the data and information that you can gather. For example, if you own a marketing consulting firm and you’re considering an advertising campaign of pay-per-click, you would want to have information, such as which keywords are mostly used by customers when searching related to consulting results. 

Identify all alternatives

After the information is analyzed, you must develop several options regarding the decision you have to make. Using the same example from earlier, you may decide on alternatives, such as display ads, re-marketing, or cost-per-thousand ads.

Evaluate pros and cons

Each alternative analyzing for its minuses and pluses can help you eliminate which possible decision is the wrong one. In this step, your goal is to identify the options that give you the best success chance and the least chance of failure. 

In some instances, there is not much difference between the two options, which means you consult with your executive leaders in order to determine which option they like best, and then rank them in descending order.

Select the best alternative

After ranking your options, you must choose the one that you think has the great and strongest chance of achieving your goal. In some instances, you combine several types of options, but mostly in cases, there will be a clear-cut type of direction that you want to take.

Make decision

The decision is simply a choice until you put it into action. This means that you understand the available resources to help make that decision become successful. You may need to have several meetings with your team leaders and managers in order to explain your decision to them, how it affects their daily routine of tasks or how it will affect your customers and clients.
